God builds a nation.

Chapter 2

Genesis 12-13, 15-17, 21-22, 32-33, 35
Romans 4
Hebrews 11

Plans come in all shapes and sizes. There are plans for making a meal and plans for building a building. If you’re Kevin McKallister, you can even create a plan to capture those bad guys who try to break into your house, like in the movie Home Alone. A good plan can have a great outcome: a yummy meal, a beautiful building, or even a safe house. But not all plans go as we expect. Sometimes, our plans go in a completely different direction than we anticipated.

Have you ever created a plan that didn’t quite work out?

Abraham had a plan for his life. He was to live with his family and inherit all of his Father’s possessions when he died. This meant that, by Abraham’s plan, he was set for life. He had security and comfort from all that was going to be given to him.

But, God had a different plan. A MUCH bigger plan for Abraham.

God’s plan was to use Abraham in a way that would effect all people, not just himself. Abraham’s inheritance from his earthly Father was just for him. But what God offers in a Covenant to Abraham, which is like a promise, is for all people.

God starts his master plan of reconnecting what sin disconnected on earth. Sin entered the world shortly after creation. Now God is choosing Abraham to be part of his great plan of reconnecting all people with Him.

This plan is huge! And the cool part is this: It starts with one person’s first step in obedience. In Abraham doing what he was asked, many years down the road all people are able to have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. One small step trusting God’s plan has one huge impact for the world.

Has there been a time when you listened to what God asked you to do, and it impacted someone else’s life?

What’s the cool thing in this part of the story? God’s plan wasn’t just for some guy along time ago in a land far, far away. It isn’t just some fairytale. God starting his plan here, in this story with Abraham, is real and it was for everyone. God wants more than anything to have a relationship with you. So he made this plan which leads to Jesus and your sins being forgiven if you believe in Him!
